Southsea Dolphinarium - Portsmouth: 1973

BACKGROUND

Two dolphins Patsy and Lulu were transported from Flamingoland for this summer season show. The animals were then sold to Windsor Safari Park.

Patsy and Lulu were caught from the wild in Florida in 1971. They move to Windsor Safari Park after their 1972 summer at Southsea.

Patsy died at Windsor in 1974.

However, Lulu continue to live there until the park closed in 1992. She then moved to Harderwijk Marine Mammal Park in Holland. She gave birth and successfully reared three calves: Juno in 1984, Apollo in 1989 and Zeus 1993. Lulu died at Harderwijk in 2001 at an estimated age of 34 years.

An outdoor exhibit on the sea front with a 9.14 m diameter, 3.05 m deep plastic lined steel tank above ground level. The 1973 dolphins were brought from Flamingo to Southampton by train and then travelled by road to Southsea. These animals then went to Windsor.
